About Playerlexicon
Who runs Playerlexicon, who it is for and how the dictionary of gaming terms and genres is funded.

Playerlexicon is an independent, plain-English dictionary of gaming terms and genres. It is written for people in the UK who want to understand the words used around video games: new players, people returning after a long break, and parents or carers who hear a stream of unfamiliar slang from the next room.
What you will find here
The lexicon has three layers. Term entries explain single words such as nerf, ping or battle pass. Genre entries go deeper into kinds of game, from roguelikes to rhythm games, with their hallmarks, history and a few starting points listed with their PEGI age ratings. Topic pages group related words so you can learn a whole area at once.
What we do not do
We do not review or score games, run competitions, collect sign-ups or sell anything. There are no adverts, sponsored entries or affiliate links, and no entry is paid for. We are not connected to any game publisher, developer, platform holder or retailer.
Who runs it
The site is operated by Brightwire Reference Ltd, a small UK publisher based in Bristol. You can reach the editorial team at [email protected]; we read every message and correct mistakes promptly. Our editorial policy explains how entries are researched and kept up to date.
About the artwork
The chrome and holographic images across the site are abstract artwork generated for Playerlexicon. They are deliberately non-representational and never depict real games, characters, consoles or brands.
