How we write and check entries
The editorial policy behind Playerlexicon: how definitions are researched, sourced, dated and corrected.
A dictionary is only useful if you can trust it. This page sets out how every entry on Playerlexicon is written, checked and maintained, so you can judge it for yourself.
Plain meaning first
Each term entry opens with a single sentence that explains the word as a newcomer would need it. The fuller explanation then covers how the word is used, a short example of it in a sentence, and what it means in practice for new players or parents. Example sentences are illustrations written by us, not quotes from real people.
Where our information comes from
- Official sources first: developer and publisher documentation, patch notes, platform help pages and published glossaries.
- Age ratings come from the PEGI database and platform storefront listings, written as text (for example “PEGI 12”).
- For history and origins we use reputable references and contemporary reporting, and we leave out any claim we cannot confirm.
- Health, safety and money topics point to official UK bodies such as the NHS rather than offering our own advice.
Every entry that makes a factual or historical claim lists its sources at the bottom, along with the date it was last checked.
What we never claim
We do not describe games as tested or played by us, we do not publish star ratings or scores, and we do not invent quotes, testimonials or statistics. Opinions, where they appear, are clearly framed as editorial views.
Corrections and updates
Gaming language changes quickly. If you spot an error, an outdated meaning or a missing word, email [email protected]. We review reports, update the entry and refresh its “last checked” date.
